What type of materials can I use for my custom wine racking system?

So you’ve decided to move ahead with your custom wine cellarOne of the most fun and exciting parts of building your wine cellar is choosing the material your wine racks will be made of. This is where the word custom really comes into play when building a custom wine cellar, you have a variety of choices, that match your preferences and design style.

HERE ARE YOUR COMMON OPTIONS FOR WINE STORAGE:

  • The first and obvious material is wood which falls into the more traditional design category, however, the introduction of more contemporary stains (i.e. expresso, black. etc.) wood has had a resurgence in the wine cellar community. Wood racking offers security, max capacity of storage, and warmth, and is always a timeless classic in custom wine storage

  • Metal wine racking has become more popular in recent years. Metal permits you to achieve a more contemporary, seamless look in your home. Some of the many benefits of metal racking are they are great for smaller, tight spaces and they come in many different finishes, such as black, silver, bronze, gold, acrylic, and even a custom finish to complement your home's small details. They also tend to be more cost-effective than wood.

  • These are your main two types of racking but there are still many other options out there that can create a unique space that fits just right for you.
    • Acrylic shelves - This translucent material is more popular in bars and stores however adds a unique flare to any residential cellar with its ability to transfer light through and light up your favorite bottles.
    • Cable racking - The name speaks for itself. It allows for the bottle to be completely suspended with 360 views allowing your bottles to look as if they’re floating. Very ideal for minimalists.

  • A common custom wine cellar look is the transitional design which can combine all of these materials to create a special display for your wine that is unique only to you. The benefit to this is being able to create a stunning showcase of your investment while ensuring you also have the most space possible for your ever-growing collection. It complements our more contemporary design and times while harkening back to the beginnings of traditional wine cellars.

We believe that just as we all have our distinctive tastes for certain wines that blend with old traditions and ingenuity, wine cellars should complete that belief and create a space that feels like yours.
